چکیده

This paper presents the complete design methodology of a very low-voltage ∆Σ third-order modulator from highlevel specifications down to layout. Behavioral models taking into account cell non-idealities are developed and used to map performance specifications to lower levels. Emphasis has been made on eventual design reuse through design plans and layout templates in a layout-oriented circuit design approach. The modulator has been designed for two different technologies demonstrating the suitability of the methodology for very high performance mixed-signal circuits. Moreover, the same design knowledge has been successfully reused in another fourth-order modulator.

A 5.43-μW 0.8-V subthreshold current-sensing ΣΔ modulator for low-noise sensor interfaces

A micro-watt power subthreshold current modulator suitable for low-power and low-noise sensor interfaces is presented. The prototype design is based on Subthreshold Source Coupled Logic (STSCL) cells and implemented in a 0.18 μm standard CMOS technology. The modulator operates with the supply voltage of 0.8 V which is significantly lower than the nominal supply of the technology node (1.8 V). I...

A 1V 1mW Digital-Audio ∆Σ Modulator with 88dB Dynamic Range using Local Switch Bootstrapping

A 1V, 1mW, 14 bit delta-sigma modulator in a standard CMOS 0.35-μm technology is presented. A modified symmetrical bootstrapped switch is used in order to allow rail-to-rail signal switching. A single-loop third-order topology with an oversampling ratio of 100 achieves a dynamic range of 88 dB, a peak SNR of 87 dB and a peak SNDR of 85 dB in a signal bandwidth of 25 kHz. Introduction The demand...

TP 4.6: A 900mV 40μW Switched Opamp DeltaSigma Modulator with 77dB Dynamic Range

Portable electronic systems require low-voltage low-power building blocks. An important building block is an A/D converter. ∆Σ ADCs provide an efficient way of trading off speed for resolution. The switched opamp (SO) technique allows design of switched-capacitor (SC) circuits at very low supply voltage without the use of multithreshold technologies or voltage multipliers to drive the switches ...

A 0.8V ∆Σ Modulator Using DTMOS Technique

A 0.8V second order ∆Σ modulator is designed in 0.18μm bulk CMOS technology. Dynamic threshold MOSFET (DTMOS) technique is used to enhance the performance of the circuit building blocks at very low supply voltage. Schematic and post layout simulation results are provided. In case of the amplifier with the embedded CMFB, the measurement results are presented. The modulator can achieve a SNR of a...

Design of a Power/Performance Efficient Single-Loop Sigma-Delta Modulator for Wireless Receivers

In order to design high performance sigma-delta A/D converters, it is essential to estimate the Figure-Of-Merit in the design process. This paper describes the design of a power/performance efficient single-loop multibit sigmadelta modulator for wireless applications. Power dissipation is minimized by optimizing the architecture and by a careful design of analog circuitry. A 3 order 4-bit Σ-∆ m...
